GLIAL ACTIVATION IN TBI: ACUTE ASTROCYTE PATHOLOGY

At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees will be able to:

  1. Define and discuss the pathophysiological changes that can occur to astrocytes within the first 24 hours after traumatic brain injury.
  2. State the significance of astrocytes in normal glutamate signaling.
  3. Explain the significance of astrocytes in the pathological process of glutamate excitotoxicity.
  4. Identify potential targets for therapeutic intervention that may reduce acute astrocyte pathophysiology after traumatic brain injury.
