Session 6-Extracellular Matrix Regulation of Injury/Recovery

July 9, 2006

Matrix Metalloproteinases: Mediators of Synaptic and Axonal Recovery Following Traumatic Brain Injury

At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees will be able to:

  1. Define specific matrix metalloproteinases which have emerging roles in the reorganization of damaged synapses and axons following brain injury

  2. Contrast differences in matrix metalloproteinase response to brain injury between conditions promoting functional recovery and those not promoting functional recovery

  3. Describe examples of metalloproteinase inhibition and plasticity manipulation which support matrix metalloproteinases as mediators of synaptic and axonal recovery after brain injury
