SESSION2: Injury Biomarkers

At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  1. Define and discuss the affect of traumatic brain injury on central nervous system (CNS) microtubule associated protein-tau and formation of its cleavage product, C-tau, after injury
  2. Describe the affect of traumatic brain injury on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum C-tau levels in patients with severe and mild/moderate traumatic brain injury.
  3. Discuss the issues associated with the clinical utility of CNS biomarkers such as C-tau including the relative importance of CSF versus serum biomarker levels for predicting clinical outcome.
