What do you think of when
someone mentions St. Louis? Fun and free family attractions? An
exciting couples or friends weekend close to home? Music, dining
and nightlife? Great sports traditions? History, arts and entertainment?
You're right. Something is waiting for everyone on your next St.
Louis getaway.
TravelSmart , the nation's
oldest consumer travel newsletter, named St. Louis as one of its
10 Safest, Culturally Most Fascinating Cities in the U.S. Selected
for its diverse cultural and tourism activities, St. Louis was cited
by the editors for the Saint Louis Art Museum and Saint Louis Zoo,
the Missouri Botanical Garden, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra
and Opera Theatre, the Cardinals, Six Flags, Anheuser-Busch and
riverboat gaming. An abundance of Lewis & Clark sites, Washington
University and Six Flags also caught TravelSmart's attention.
Chances are the Gateway Arch is also
top of mind when you think of St. Louis. That's not surprising since
the great Arch has been the region's international symbol since
it opened in 1965. This year the 630-foot-tall monument is celebrating
an important anniversary and it's clear that life really does begin
at 40 for this amazing attraction.
You can celebrate the anniversary
along with St. Louis by taking a tram ride to the top of the Arch,
watching the heart-stopping movie about the monument's construction
or a giant screen film, visiting the Museum of Westward Expansion—an
underground museum below the Arch—and enjoying special events on
the grounds of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.
Proving that there's no mid-life
crisis in St. Louis, the Arch continues to add attractions and activities
to its offerings. Now you can combine a visit with a cruise on the
Gateway Arch Riverboats and rent bikes on the dock for a two-wheel
tour of the Riverfront Trail or downtown attractions and architecture.
Beyond the Arch grounds,
visitors will see a new energy in downtown St. Louis where scores
of new restaurants, retailers and hotels have opened in historic
buildings and even more exciting developments are underway. Thousands
of people have returned to the heart of the region to scoop up new
loft condos as soon as they're finished in resurrected buildings
that once were warehouses and factories. Outside of downtown, growth
continues at St. Louis' attractions in St. Louis City and St. Louis
County where new sights are added on a regular basis.
There's never been a better
time to explore St. Louis for yourself.
