Title of Talk: Activity Dependent Plasticity and Transplant Mediated Repair in the Injured Spinal Cord
At the conclusion of this presentation the participants will be able to:
1. Recognize that a successful approach to treating spinal cord injury will require attention to upstream and downstream areas affected by the injury in addition to intervention at the site of injury.
2. Identify the advantages to therapeutic approaches that address both short and long axon tracts as sources for functional regeneration.
2. Discuss the potential beneficial actions of physical rehabilitation after experimental spinal cord injury, with particular regard to the role of exercise-induced neurotrophic factor production.
4. Discuss the importance of a combination treatment strategy for the promotion of repair after spinal cord injury.
