Title:     Surgical decompression of cerebral contusions

Objectives:

•  To understand the mechanism of progressive ICP elevation and clinical deterioration following brain injury.

•  To understand the pathophysiology of the early massive edema caused by severe cerebral contusion.

•  To understand the relation the early massive edema and a high osmolality within the necrotic brain tissue.

•  To evaluate the result of surgical excision of the necrotic brain tissue in patients with cerebral contusion.
