NNS seminar objectives

…participants will be able to:

1) Define the major cellular components of the glial scar that forms at the sites of spinal cord injuries.

2) Outline the changes that astrocytes undergo as they become reactive after SCI, and identify some of the extra- and intra-cellular signaling mechanisms that regulate these changes.

3) Understand how certain transgenic mouse models can be used to study specific questions regarding molecular and cellular mechanisms in the response to SCI.

4) Identify the evidence for a role of scar-forming astrocytes in restricting the spread of inflammatory cells after SCI.
