BLAST TBI : AN UPDATE FROM THE US DOD CONSORTIUMS

TBI resulting from explosive blast has become the signature injury in combat casualty care and civilian trauma from terrorist attacks with improvised explosive devices. The United States Department of Defense (DOD) has supported several major initiatives in an effort to better understand this problem and foster the development of new therapies. On Thursday September 10th at the Double Tree Resort from 2:30 PM until 4:30 PM a special "Late breaking news" session titled "Blast-TBI: Updates from the US DOD Consortiums" will be held. The session will feature presentations from leading PIs in four of the major DOD-funded consortia currently investigating this condition. Dr. Richard Bauman from WRAIR will give an update of the DARPA PREVENT program, which focuses on pre-clinical modeling.

Dr. Claudia Robertson will present new findings from the multi-disciplinary Mission Connect program in Texas and Dr. Larry Marshall from the UC San Diego Medical Center will present an update of the clinical trials in PTSD and TBI that are being launched by the INTRuST clinical trials consortium, and finally, Col Michael Jaffe will update the current research being carried out in the Defense and Veteran's Brain Injury Center.
