The participant will be able to:

•  Distinguish the various cell injury and cell death pathways evoked by traumatic brain injury.

•  Compare and contrast these neuronal injury and death pathways in terms of their pathological, biochemical, and molecular markers.

•  Address the role of direct mechanical factors in inducing and modifying these neuronal injury and cell death cascades.

•  Challenge current views on the initiation of traumatically-induced neuronal injury and death which do not directly consider the role of mechanical forces in these processes.
