Coronavirus (COVID-19) Statement

coronavirus header

March 21, 2020
After careful consideration, the leadership of the National Neurotrauma Society has made the difficult decision to CANCEL the upcoming Neurotrauma 2020 meeting scheduled for June 28-July 1 in Atlanta, GA.
We deeply regret any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the NNS meeting and we share your disappointment, but we believe this is the most responsible course of action to protect the health and well-being of our attendees and all those engaged in the conference. The global situation relating to COVID-19 and its impact has changed significantly over the past few days, and likely will continue to do so in the weeks ahead. This is making it very difficult to predict, assess and mitigate any potential risks to our attendees, speakers, exhibitors and invited guests.
The National Neurotrauma Society and conference organizers have been continuously monitoring the latest information on the spread of the novel coronavirus disease COVID-19. Along with rising concerns that travel to large group gatherings is not judicious from a public and personal health perspective, we are seeing an increasing number of domestic and international travel bans being implemented by hospitals and universities in attempts to contain and minimize the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. This now significantly impacts the quality of the NNS 2020 program and the ability of key international speakers and delegates to meaningfully participate.
NNS asks for your understanding and patience as we work through the complex and immense logistics of this extraordinary and difficult circumstance.
What Happens Next?

Please mark your calendars to attend
Neurotrauma 2021 - JULY 11-14, 2021 - Austin, TX

March 17, 2020

On behalf of the National Neurotrauma Society, we would like to inform you that our team is closely monitoring the continuing developments on coronavirus (COVID-19) and it’s potential impact on the Neurotrauma 2020 Symposium.

At this time the Conference will continue to be held as scheduled on June 28-July 1 in Atlanta, GA.

The well-being of NNS 2020 attendees is of the utmost importance. NNS management is paying close attention to statements from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and is following the guidelines from these agencies and local health departments.

The Westin Peachtree Plaza is currently operating normally. Any changes to operating status will be communicated immediately to all registered conference attendees via the NNS website and the email address used when registering for the meeting.

We will continue to follow this situation, while moving forward with plans to deliver an exceptional meeting. Travelers are encouraged to always exercise healthy travel habits and follow guidance issued by official sources of public health information.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We are implementing a no-penalty fee cancellation policy related to the Covid-19 pandemic. We will refund your registration fee 100% before and up until the start of the meeting in the event you are unable to attend due to curtailment of transportation, country lockdown, or illness related to coronavirus.

The safety and health of our attendees is our top priority, and to that end, we will institute numerous safety measures and guidelines in accordance with recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure everyone’s health and well-being as detailed below.

We also ask that anyone planning to attend that believes they may have been exposed to the Coronavirus in other travels, or who is not feeling well, to refrain from joining us this year for the safety of other attendees.

The following safety measures will be implemented onsite at the Westin Peachtree Plaza:

  • We will keep up-to-date information on our event website regarding to the status of the event, and precautions for attendees onsite

  • We will send email communications to registered event participants with pertinent updates leading up to the event

  • The Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel is taking safety precautions for the overall safety of all guests and meeting attendees.

We Ask Attendees To:

  • Wash hands frequently

  • Adopt a no-handshake policy at the event

  • Cough or sneeze into elbows only

  • Stay home if they are sick or experiencing any cold/flu-like symptoms for their own safety and the safety of others

  • Seek medical care right away and alert our staff at registration should they begin to experience cold or flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, trouble breathing) onsite. We will have local medical care contact information available for all attendees and can assist any attendee with transportation to a local clinic.

We will continue to regularly check the latest official information leading up to the event and encourage our conference participants to do the same.

If the meeting has to be cancelled later, will I receive a refund?  YES

For any cancellations NOT related to coronavirus (Covid-19), NNS's standard cancellation policy applies (A $75 non-refundable processing fee will be deducted from the refund). Alternatively, you may request that your 2020 registration fee be applied towards the 2021 meeting in Austin, TX.

Travel reservations (and refunds) are the responsibility of the attendee. Please check with your airline for their specific policy on changing flights and/or issuing refunds.

If I don’t want to travel to the meeting am I able to receive a refund for my abstract submission? NO
