Join us for Neurotrauma 2027!
Dear NNS Community,
It is my great pleasure, as President of the National Neurotrauma Society, to invite you to the 44th Annual Symposium of the National Neurotrauma Society, to be held June 13–16, 2027, in Portland, Oregon, at the Oregon Convention Center. We are delighted to gather again with colleagues, trainees, clinicians, scientists, and partners from across the neurotrauma community, and to continue our valued collaboration with the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Neurotrauma and Critical Care.
The theme for Neurotrauma 2027 is “Rooted in Discovery, Rising Toward Recovery.” This theme reflects both the history and the future of our field. Neurotrauma research is rooted in rigorous discovery through careful mechanistic studies, validated injury models, clinical observations, biomarker development, rehabilitation science, and a deep commitment to understanding the injured brain and spinal cord. At the same time, our work is always rising toward recovery: toward better treatments, meaningful functional gains, improved quality of life, and renewed hope for patients, families, and communities affected by traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. Portland, known as the City of Roses, provides a fitting and inspiring home for our 2027 meeting. The logo, with a rose blooming within the brain and its stem and thorns extending into the spinal cord, captures the beauty, complexity, and resilience of neurotrauma science. The rose reminds us that recovery must be cultivated with care, persistence, collaboration, and time. Its thorns acknowledge the pain and challenge of injury, while its bloom reflects growth, repair, and possibility.
We are assembling an outstanding program that will span traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurocritical care, rehabilitation, biomarkers, neuroinflammation, data science, therapeutic and new technique developments, and lived experiences. As always, the meeting will emphasize the essential integration of preclinical and clinical perspectives, while advancing rigor, reproducibility, transparency, and translation. Neurotrauma 2027 will also continue NNS’s strong commitment to trainees, junior investigators, mentorship, and community building through travel awards, the Data Blitz sessions, trainee-led programming, TEAM activities, and the Local Scholars Program. These efforts are central to who we are as a Society and to the future we are cultivating together.
I look forward to welcoming you to Portland, where we will gather in the spirit of discovery, connection, and shared purpose. Together, we will honor our roots, strengthen our community, and rise toward recovery.
