Trainee Travel Awards
The National Neurotrauma Society offers Trainee Travel Awards to ensure that undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows are given an opportunity to attend the conference and present their work. Any trainee who registers for the conference and also submits an abstract may apply for a travel award. The selection process includes abstract review as well as consideration of details from a cover letter and letter of recommendation.
For the purpose of Neurotrauma registration, the definition of a “Trainee” is a member delegate who meets at least one of the following criteria:
- An undergraduate, graduate, nurse or medical student at an internationally recognized university or college.
- A postdoctoral student who has completed an MD and/or PhD who is currently under the supervision of mentor (or advisor) for the purpose of acquiring additional training.
- A resident who is in training at an accredited or internationally recognized university/hospital training program.
Any trainee that has not received a trainee award from NNS in the past 2 years may apply.
Applicants do not need to be a member of the NNS or AANS/CNS.
Applicants must be first (presenting) author of a submitted abstract.
There is no limit on the number of applications from one lab, however, no more than one award will be awarded to any one lab.
A trainee is defined as: an undergraduate student, graduate student / nurse or medical student, postdoctoral fellow or medical resident.
All accepted abstracts will be published in the Journal of Neurotrauma Bi-Monthly issue immediately prior to the conference.
You must register for the NNS annual symposium and submit an abstract in order to apply for a Trainee Award. Should your abstract not be accepted, a refund for your registration fee may be requested.
Step one: Register for NNS Symposium.
Step two: Once your registration is complete, you will receive a link to submit an abstract via the registration confirmation email. You may apply for a Trainee Travel Award through the abstract submission portal.
Step three: Please be prepared to share the following documents in the application: CV, cover letter from applicant, and letter of recommendation.
Cover letter should include a statement about your career goals and describe how attending the NNS meeting will support these goals. Additional information related to distance traveled in your professional journey and barriers overcome may also be shared. Letter of recommendation should be written by your mentor or program/department chair
