Stark Neurosciences Research Institute (SNRI) and the Department of Neurological Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine seek a qualified Primary Member and Open Rank, Tenure eligible faculty member to lead the Indiana Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research (ISCBIRG)-related initiatives.  This leader will Direct the ISCBIRG Research Group and become a member of the SNRI Executive Committee.  The initial appointment term will be for three years with an opportunity to extend the appointment in three-year terms upon satisfactory performance evaluation by SNRI’s Executive Director and Department Chair. 

The Department of Neurological Surgery provides world-class clinical care, education and research in neurosurgery and related neurosciences. Research can include “bench” or laboratory research, translational science, clinical research, or clinical trials.

Researchers in the Department of Neurological Surgery are passionate about developing innovative techniques and new treatment approaches that   provide patients the best chance for healing, recover and quality of life.. Whether through clinical and laboratory research projects or involvement in multi-center clinical trials and databases, neurological surgery researchers dedicate their life’s work to advancing treatment solutions in this critical area of medicine. Faculty and staff are participating in several nationwide clinical trials. 

Responsibilities:

• Develop, enhance, and lead a spinal cord and brain injury research program.
• Provide leadership for collaborative scientific endeavors of the spinal cord and brain injury research faculty, trainees, and staff. 
• Initiate and facilitate various research and educational initiatives focused on spinal cord and brain injury broadly across the IUSM translational spectrum, with a special emphasis on interactions between human and preclinical model research.
• Promote cutting edge spinal cord and brain injury research that will lead to increased funding (with a focus/goalon NIH multi-PI R01s, P and U grants) and high-impact (>10) publications within and across the Institute.
• Promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion across the research and educational missions within the research group.
• In collaboration with the SNRI Education Director, enhance education initiatives, including coursework focused on spinal cord and brain injury as well as the application for individual and institutional spinal cord and brain injury training grants.

Criteria:

• Primary member of Stark Neurosciences Research Institute.
• Full-time faculty member of Indiana University or faculty from another institution being actively recruited (status would be conferred upon employment with Indiana University).
• Conducts spinal cord and brain injury-related research.
• PI or Co-PI on a spinal cord and brain injury-related research grant (extramural, multi-year), contract, or clinical trial.
• Actively publishing spinal cord and brain injury-related research.

Benefits:

• $20,000 annual supplement in addition to annual salary.
• Membership on the Executive Committee with an opportunity to have a voice in decisions made for SNRI and its members.
