A postdoctoral fellow or Research Scientist position (depending on qualifications and experience) is available in the lab of Dr. George D Bittnerin the Department of Neurosciences, The University of Texas at Austin. Our lab studies the repair of traumatic injuries to peripheral nerves and the spinal cord in rat model systems. We study the immediate, rapid and effective repair of severed peripheral or spinal track axons by fusion of apposed axonal ends by a set of well-specified bioactive solution, one of which contains 50% w/w 3.35kD polyethylene glycol. (PEG). We seek post-doctoral fellow or research scientist with experience and formal training in neuroscience with excellent microsurgical skills. Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in electron microscopy or immunological techniques and also having good written and oral communication skills. The recipient will have the opportunity to learn and perform microsurgery, confocal and TEM imaging, as well as design and perform molecular and cellular assays, including RNA and DNA extraction and purification, qPCR, immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry. Successful candidates will be expected to perform research, write manuscripts, and present their findings at local and national meetings.

Required Qualifications
Ph.D., M.D. or MS with extensive experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in the Neuroscience, or a related discipline.
- Prior experience in working with rodents, and a broad understanding in neuroscience and spinal or peripheral nerve injury, is strongly preferred.
Salary Range
Pay is commensurate with experience.
