A post-doctoral fellowship position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Shaoping Hou at the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center (DCRC), University of Missouri - Columbia. The research team uses both rat and mouse models to study autonomic dysfunction, particularly cardiovascular and bladder disorders, after spinal cord injury (SCI). We will mainly explore cell transplantation, neural regeneration, and cell reprogramming to reconstitute central regulation for autonomic functional recovery. The studies will employ a wide range of neuroscience, cardiovascular, and micturition techniques including SCI animal models, physiological recordings, neural tract tracing, human iPSC differentiation, passive exercise training, pharmacological interventions, and molecular biology as well as histology.

The candidate should have strong interests in autonomic neuroscience and experience in working with rodent, who is able to work independently, highly motivated, and enthusiastic. The post-doctoral fellow will work on neuro-cardiovascular or micturition experiments, data analysis, writing manuscripts, preparing fellowship grants (though salary support is guaranteed), and helping mentor students and technicians. This position enables the post-doc to acquire comprehensive research training in autonomic neuroscience areas for pursuing higher academic goals in the future.

Requirements for applicants:
  • Have a Ph.D. in neuroscience/cardiovascular or related disciplines
  • Basic skills in animal surgery, histology and microscopy
  • Have a good publication record, written and spoken English proficiency
  • Although prefer 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience, we will also consider those beyond the requirement possessing related specialties, such as electrophysiology
The Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center (DCRC) at the University of Missouri provide an outstanding academic environment for gaining training in autonomic neuroscience research. The position will be available until filled. Salary will be based on NIH scale commensurate with experience and capability. Interested applicants are invited to submit a single PDF that includes curriculum vitae, personal statement (research experience and interests), and contact information for three references to Dr. Shaoping Hou (shou@health.missouri.edu).
